The growth of the flexible lawyer market – are law firms offering flexibility for the actual lawyers or just their clients?

There’s been much recent discussion on the changes to our traditional workplaces. According to Stylus Innovation & Research, by 2040 workers will be “workplace consumers” who are totally in control of where, how and when they work. Many others talk about the increasing expectation and rationale for flexible working options for all types of workers. Research shows that the newly recognised ‘Generation Y’ or ‘Millennials’ is a generation of workers more likely to feel confident about being self-employed. In fact this generation seem to be actively searching for more flexibility and freedom in their work lives. Some employers are undoubtedly picking up on these trends, with the likes of Vodafone now offering flexible working to staff at all levels, and of course Virgin Media giving 12 months paid paternity leave. There is definitely change afoot in workplaces with many big name employers looking at different ways of resourcing… But is this happening in the legal sector? Continue reading…
