The job application – first impressions do count

I have reviewed hundreds, probably thousands, of application forms, CVs and covering letters over the last 15 years. Creating the right first impression with a potential employer is crucial. Get it wrong and you’re unlikely to get past the first hurdle, get it right and you face the next challenge – the interview (a topic for another day).

So you’ve done your research and found a firm that interests you. Now the question is – is there such a thing as a perfect application? There certainly isn’t a ‘one size fits all’ recipe to creating the right first impression with a potential employer, but I really do think that if you bear in mind a few key points, you can give yourself the best possible chance. On Tuesday 8 November 2016, voters across America will decide who will be the 45th President of the United States. With things looking set to be a head-to-head battle between Trump and Clinton, it could be the fiercest election race in years for the most powerful position in world politics.
