Life’s too short

Today is the 1 year anniversary of my father’s passing. In some ways the past twelve months has flown, in another way it seems like the events of last year were aeons ago.

His eulogies were touching and highlighted just what an amazing man my dad was. He was a well-respected and long-serving Consultant Cardiologist with a career spanning over six decades and working for over 30 hospitals in that time. I always knew dad was good at his job but hearing so many amazing stories from his colleagues and ex-patients was humbling and showed how much he truly loved what he did.

Since last September I have become very mindful of the importance of job and career satisfaction as it really is one of the most important parts of your life. ‘What do you do’ is one of the first questions you’re asked when meeting new people, work is where you spend the vast majority of your adult life and I count among my best friends people I’ve met through my current and previous jobs. Enjoying what you do and where you do it is so crucial to your mental health and happiness.

Furthermore, working for an organisation that empathises and supports you through these challenging life scenarios cannot be underestimated. I am thankful to my employers for the compassion, patience and understanding that they’ve shown me this past year.

It leads me to conclude that quite simply life is too short to be stuck in a job or role you don’t enjoy or to work for a business that doesn’t value and look after you.

If you find yourself questioning your current situation what you need to bear in mind is that there are always options open to you. In my opinion the legal sector is full of great law firms who have a pastoral approach and really appreciate that happy and well-looked after employees are going to be more productive and loyal in return.

If you are interested in discussing your career options and finding out what else is out there please get in touch for a confidential discussion. We are currently working with many firms who are actively recruiting across various practice areas and your dream firm or job could be closer than you think!
